Shuangliu Middle School (SMS), founded in 1941, covers an area of 283,333 square meters (110,000 square meters for senior high school, 173,333 square meters for junior high school). It is located near Shuangliu International Airport, only 10 kilometers from Chengdu. In early 1950s it was well known as Garden-like School. Li Tianjie, former principal of SMS, attended the galaxy conference for excellent educators in 1960.Thanks to scores of years’ development and accumulation, SMS has become a National Model School on an amazing scale. It has 131 classes, an enrollment of over 7500 students and 486 full time teachers.  The teaching staff includes 135 special rank teachers and 188 advanced rank teachers. This garden-like school, with a sixty years history and advanced facilities, has made remarkable achievements in various fields since its beginning. Due to the excellent facilities, SMS has been designated as a base for Key Scientific Experiment by the Education Department, for Educational Training by Qinghua University, and for Physics Olympic Competitions by Sichuan University.  Other honorable designations SMS has received are a base for Sports Candidates of Sichuan University, for Physics and Chemistry Olympic Competition by Sichuan Normal University, for Seedling Project by Ba Jing Literature Academy. Throughout the development of SMS, international exchange has always been sought and achieved due to its positive impact. Long-lasting relationships have been established between SMS and schools in Europe, America, Australia as well as the famous schools in China. Because of the great success of our school management, SMS has been granted the following titles: Sichuan Civilized Unit, Modern Moral School, A model School for Experimental Teaching, Archery key School, A School for Sports Candidates, National Advanced Units for Mass Sports, A National Sports School, A National Level Model High School.

SMS has entered into new phase of development of its school management practices. SMS has developed modern administration concept “Education must be human-based, integrated with all school age children who are well developed morally, intellectually and physically”. The creative and progressive administration system combines love with strictness.  The school management is characterized by “ focusing on both research and application, teaching reforms based on the basis of research”. In consequence, great achievements are made in teaching and specialty training. In recent years, More than 7,000 students have been admitted to universities both at home and abroad, including 1,000 students going to famous universities, such as Qinghua University, Beijing University, Fudan University. Furthermore, SMS has cultivated many graduates who rank first in the National College Entrance Examination in Shuangliu County. 2,000 awards are gained in various competitions. SMS Girls’ Chorus, SMS Girls’ Baseball Team, and SMS Archery Team are well known throughout the country. Besides, 35 art works were selected in Sichuan Nine-Year Obligatory Education Textbook. Countless SMS students have played their part in making SMS beautiful and prosperous.

  In order to adapt to the situation of national reform and development in education, senior high school and junior high school were separated.  The main goal was to respect the differences between senior high school students and junior high school students in terms of psychology and physiology as well as to concentrate efforts on the needs of each respective group. The Experimental school attached to Shuangliu Middle School, which is standardized, human-based, creative and modernized, has been in operation since September, 2003.

  Presently, the people of SMS, carrying on the ideal of “ repaying our country with education” and the mission of “ nurturing and educating talents for the country”, are constructing a new SMS.  The goal will be to create an institution which is modern, international and humanistic.  This will be attained by setting goals in new century and enhancing communication and cooperation at home and abroad.  The long term goal for SMS is to be well-known as a school of high quality and modern facility with quality education and modern practices.
